The piece of architecture I have decided to look in reference to detail is this home on South Forest Avenue. I was intrigued by the dark paneling featured on the outside of the home. This is a detail because it is a “part” of the “whole” home. In terms of collocation, it is interesting that it is mainly featured on the second story exterior of the home. It seems as though this outlining is not doing anything structurally as it is only visible on the second level, this leads me to believe that it is mainly ornamental. The paneling/outlining aids in portraying a more classical/Tudor style on a more contemporary frame. Without this outlining/paneling the home would lose some of its masculinity and heaviness. This “style” of ornament is not seen in contemporary architecture much, I believe that it was chosen very meticulously in order to depict a time. The patterned and irregular outlines separate this home from others, by alluding to a colonial revival tudor style. For this reason, the detailing of the outline is significant. This detailing can help serve as symbolism for a time period. Overall, this detail is so interesting because of both it’s placement on a corner of the second story and absence elsewhere on the home.
