Project 1 Final
The location for my video was in front of the U of M hospital on Ann St. and Zina Pitcher. Throughout this project I was more interested in how the space of the path interacted with the space it was leading into and the space that the path was in. My goal was to capture the pathway that leads up to the hospital and the interaction it has with the atmosphere of the Hospital. The pathway if fairly long, it would not be thought of as an ideal entrance to a hospital especially for nurses and doctors who are tired and are leaving from that entrance after a long day of work. Most hospitals have a shorter pathway due to the urgency and hectic atmosphere. I find the long pathway in front of the U of M hospital to be implying the opposite and might be trying to create a more calm and stress-free environment.
In terms of shooting I tried to capture the depth of the path from both a standard eye level and then from a lower perspective on the ground, which was intended to capture the traffic that passes through the space. As I expected though, there wasn't much traffic because the path is to enforce this idea of serenity and space where a person is able to enjoy a quick escape before entering the hospital. There also might have not been too much traffic because it was about 4:30 in the afternoon, and most of the staff was still on duty. I also did shots from the sidewalk closest to the Ann St. to capture the entire length of the pathway to a person walking on the sidewalk the path may be perceived as either a very long tiring walk to the hospital because the path is so long or a very relaxing path when taking into consideration the surrounding space which is just nicely mown grass, trees, flowers, benches, and lampposts. Because there is not much in the area the there is not much of a distraction for the person walking the path and the person could just be in his or her own thoughts.
